It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Drake Donovon Shinabarger, 28, of Clemmons, North Carolina, who died on April 12, 2026. Born on August 7, 1997, in Carson City, Michigan, Drake lived a life defined by courage, service, and an unshakable devotion to his family and community. Though his time here was far too short, the impact he made on those around him will endure for years to come.

Drake proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, where he was part of the Airborne division. His time in the military reflected his deep sense of duty and his willingness to put others before himself. That same commitment followed him into civilian life, where he continued to serve his community as both a firefighter with the High Point Fire Department and later as an officer with the High Point Police Department. In each role, Drake demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, and composure. He was known for his calm presence during high-pressure situations and his ability to reassure both colleagues and civilians alike. Those who worked alongside him remember not only his professionalism but also his genuine care for others.

Beyond his service, Drake embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity. He found joy in the outdoors, often spending time hiking, camping, and exploring nature. He also had a deep appreciation for firearms and knives, interests he pursued responsibly and with respect. At home, Drake enjoyed immersing himself in movies and video games, often diving into imaginative worlds that reflected his love for storytelling and adventure. He proudly embraced his “nerdy” side, finding excitement in events like Renaissance Fairs and his admiration for The Lord of the Rings, which captured his imagination and sense of wonder.

Above all, Drake was a devoted husband and father. His wife, Abigail, and their son, Cassius, were the center of his world. He cherished every moment spent with them, whether it was playing together, sharing laughter, or simply enjoying the quiet comfort of family life. His love extended to their beloved dogs—Sadie, Slade, and Tank—who were an important part of the family he held so dear.

Drake’s personality was as memorable as his accomplishments. He had a playful sense of humor and a lighthearted spirit that could brighten any room. Yet beneath that humor was a deeply grounded and compassionate individual who inspired trust, loyalty, and admiration in everyone he met.

He is survived by his loving wife, Abigail Shinabarger; their son, Cassius Shinabarger; his mother, Brenda Shinabarger; grandmother, Betty Shinabarger; uncle, Lyle (Cheryl) Shinabarger Jr.; along with many extended family members and friends who will carry his memory forward. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Lyle Shinabarger.

In honor of Drake’s life and legacy, donations may be made to The Invictus Project. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Redland Church, IHPC, located at 137 Baltimore Road in Advance, North Carolina.
