East St. Louis Shooting Leaves Woman Dead After Vehicle Strikes Pillar; Investigation Ongoing
A 25-year-old woman, identified as Nikajha Thee Alchemistt, died following a shooting Wednesday afternoon, June 3, in East St. Louis, according to local authorities.
Police said the incident occurred shortly after 1:00 p.m. in the 2400 block of Ridge Avenue. Investigators reported that the victim was shot under circumstances that remain under active investigation.
Following the shooting, the victim’s vehicle continued moving before crashing into a concrete pillar near the intersection of 25th Street and Cleveland Avenue. Emergency responders were called to the scene, where they located the woman suffering from critical injuries.
She was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased.
The East St. Louis Police Department responded to the scene and secured the area as a crime scene. The Illinois State Police also assisted in the investigation. Officers spent several hours collecting evidence, documenting the scene, and interviewing potential witnesses in an effort to determine the events leading up to the shooting.
Authorities confirmed that a female suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the case. However, officials have not yet released the suspect’s identity or announced any formal charges as of this time. Investigators have also not publicly detailed a possible motive.
