Despite efforts to stop the wrong-way driver, the situation escalated within moments.
Investigators state that the Mercedes struck a guardrail before re-entering the southbound lane, where it collided head-on with a blue Mazda Mazda3 driven by Mariah Mayfield. The impact was catastrophic. Despite the rapid response of emergency personnel, Mariah was tragically pronounced dead at the scene.
