In Loving Memory of John Fagen, 66, of Fruitland
John Fagen Death, Obituary: We are deeply saddened to share the passing of John Fagen, 66, of Fruitland, a beloved teacher, dedicated coach, and a true cornerstone of the Fruitland wrestling community. His passing marks the loss of a man whose influence reached far beyond the classroom and wrestling mat, touching generations of students, athletes, colleagues, and friends.
John Fagen will be remembered first and foremost for his unwavering commitment to education and youth development. As a teacher, he was more than an instructor—he was a mentor who believed in the potential of every student who walked through his classroom door. He had a way of making learning meaningful, encouraging curiosity, discipline, and confidence in those he taught. Many students will remember him not only for what he taught, but for how he made them believe in themselves.
As a coach, John’s impact on the Fruitland wrestling community was profound and lasting. He was the kind of leader who built more than athletes—he built character. Through discipline, encouragement, and example, he helped shape young wrestlers into hardworking, respectful individuals both on and off the mat. His dedication to the sport and to his athletes created a legacy that will continue to live on in the programs he helped strengthen and the lives he helped shape.
Those who knew John personally will remember his steady presence, his quiet strength, and his deep care for others. He was a man who showed up consistently—for his students, his athletes, his colleagues, and his community. Whether celebrating a victory, offering guidance after a loss, or simply being present when someone needed support, John’s impact was always felt.
Beyond his professional contributions, John Fagen was deeply valued for who he was as a person. He was a mentor, a friend, and a source of encouragement to many. His integrity, humility, and dedication earned him the respect of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy is not only found in achievements or titles, but in the countless lives he influenced with patience, wisdom, and care.
The Fruitland community mourns the loss of one of its pillars. His absence will be felt deeply in classrooms, gyms, and in the hearts of those who considered him a guiding force in their lives. Yet, even in grief, there is gratitude—for the years of service, the lessons shared, and the lasting impact he made on so many.
A memorial service for John Fagen will be held on Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 PM in the Fruitland High School Gym, a fitting place to honor a man who gave so much of his life to education and athletics in that very space. In addition, Living in the News will be broadcasting the service live, allowing many more to join in honoring his memory and legacy.
Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the Fagen family, his friends, former students, athletes, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. May you find comfort in the shared memories, the stories that will continue to be told, and the lasting impact he leaves behind.
