According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded on June 17, 2026, at approximately 1:37 p.m. to a welfare check at The Waters at Bluff Springs, located at 7707 IH-35 South. The call reported a possible deceased person behind a residential building within the complex, prompting an immediate response from officers and emergency personnel.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female in a garden area behind the apartment building suffering from serious injuries. She was later identified as Francesca Ortiz. Despite all efforts by emergency responders, she was pronounced deceased at the scene at 1:50 p.m.

Homicide detectives with the Austin Police Department, along with Crime Scene Specialists from the Austin Forensic Science Division, responded to the scene to begin a full investigation. The area was secured as investigators carefully worked to collect evidence and piece together the circumstances surrounding her death.

Preliminary information indicates that Francesca had been at the apartment complex shortly before midnight, where she was attempting to visit someone. Between that time and the discovery of her body, she suffered injuries that ultimately led her to lose her life. An autopsy conducted on June 18, 2026, confirmed the cause of death as blunt force trauma.
