A native of Frazee, Minnesota, Daniel made his home in Fargo, where he built both his life and his legacy. His commitment to excellence and his sense of responsibility were evident in everything he did, earning him the trust and admiration of those around him.
Serving with the 119th Operations Support Squadron as a Cyber Defense Operations Specialist, Daniel played a critical role in supporting communications that served both the state and the nation. His work, though often behind the scenes, was vital—helping ensure security, connectivity, and readiness in an increasingly complex digital world. He carried out these responsibilities with focus, intelligence, and a deep sense of purpose.
Beyond his military service, Daniel was a young man with a bright future. In 2025, he earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from North Dakota State University, a testament to his dedication, discipline, and ambition. He stood at the beginning of a promising path, filled with potential and opportunity, making his loss all the more difficult to bear.
To his fellow Hooligans, Daniel was more than a colleague—he was family. He shared in the bonds of service, trust, and mutual respect that define military life. His presence brought strength to his unit, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. The words of leadership reflect what so many feel: he was deeply valued, and his loss is profoundly felt.
To his family, Daniel was a son, a loved one, and a source of pride and joy. No words can ease the pain of such a loss, but the love he gave and the life he lived remain as lasting reminders of who he was. The support of his military family stands alongside them during this time of grief, united in honoring his memory.
Though his time was far too short, Staff Sgt. Daniel Putnam’s life was one of purpose, service, and promise. He leaves behind a legacy defined not by years, but by impact—through his dedication to his country, his commitment to his work, and the respect he earned from those around him.
As we remember Daniel, we do so with gratitude for his service, with respect for his contributions, and with sorrow for the loss of a life that meant so much to so many.
