In Loving Memory of Drake Shinabarger
Drake Shinabarger Death, Obituary: With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we honor the life of Drake Shinabarger, a 28-year-old police recruit whose sudden and unexpected passing has left an immeasurable void within the High Point Police Department and the community he was so passionate about serving.
Drake was preparing to graduate from Basic Law Enforcement Training this June—a milestone that reflected his unwavering commitment to protecting and helping others. His journey into law enforcement was not just a career path, but a calling. He joined the High Point Police Department last summer, bringing with him a strong foundation of service, discipline, and compassion.
Before pursuing law enforcement, Drake served with dedication in the High Point Fire Department, where he spent several years answering calls and helping those in need. His commitment to service extended even further through his time in the National Guard, the U.S. Army, and the U.S. Army Reserve. In every role he held, Drake embodied a spirit of duty, courage, and selflessness.
Though his time with the department was brief, his impact was profound. Among his fellow recruits, Drake was known as a natural leader—someone who uplifted others, offered encouragement, and led by example. He was a friend to those around him, a strong advocate for wellness and support within the department, and a person whose smile and sense of humor brought light into even the most challenging days.
Beyond his service, Drake was a devoted husband and father. His love for his family was at the center of his life, and his absence will be felt most deeply by those who knew him not only as a public servant, but as a loving partner and parent. The loss of Drake is not only a loss to his department, but to his family who now face the unimaginable task of moving forward without him.
Family, friends, and members of the community will gather to celebrate and remember Drake’s life on Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m. at Redland Church, IPHC in Advance. It will be a time to reflect on his life, his service, and the lasting impression he made on so many.
This has been an especially difficult time for the High Point Police Department, as they continue to process this heartbreaking loss. Yet even in grief, there is a shared sense of gratitude—for the life Drake lived, for the service he gave, and for the example he set.
As the community comes together in support, thoughts and prayers remain with his wife, his son, and all who loved him. May they find strength in the memories he leaves behind, in the love that surrounds them, and in the legacy of a life dedicated to serving others.
Drake Shinabarger will not be forgotten. His commitment, his spirit, and his kindness will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege to know him.
