Melissa Prosser Death, Obituary BOURBONNAIS, Ill. — The Bourbonnais community is mourning the tragic loss of Melissa Prosser, 26, who was killed early Sunday morning in a devastating crash on Interstate 55 in Will County.
According to Illinois State Police, troopers responded just before 3:15 a.m. to a two-vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of I-55 near mile marker 246 in Channahon. Emergency crews arrived on scene and began rendering aid to the victims.
The Will County Coroner’s Office confirmed that Prosser was transported to St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Joliet, where she later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.
Officials said the second driver involved in the crash sustained injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The condition of that driver has not been released.
Following the crash, all southbound lanes of I-55 were closed for several hours as investigators worked the scene and crews cleared the roadway. Illinois State Police reported the interstate reopened around 8:40 a.m.
The circumstances leading up to the crash remain unclear, and investigators are working to determine what caused the collision, including reviewing roadway conditions and other contributing factors.
Prosser’s death has left family, friends, and loved ones devastated as the community grieves the loss of a young life taken far too soon.
Illinois State Police continue to investigate the crash and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information to come forward as the investigation remains active.
