Described as the “hero and foundation” of his family, Medhat Mahdy leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, leadership, and service. He was a devoted father to Sharif, Jasmine, and Kareem, and a cherished father-in-law to Michael Tomlin and Peter Hurson.

His role as a grandfather to Joseph and Claire brought him immense pride and joy. In a touching reflection, his family also shared his affection for Brando, a spirited Golden Retriever who reminded him of his beloved wife, Ann.

Professionally, Mahdy was widely admired for his long and distinguished career with the YMCA, where he made a lasting impact on community development and social programs across Toronto.

His leadership helped shape initiatives that supported youth, families, and underserved communities, earning him recognition both locally and nationally. Receiving the Order of Canada in September was a testament to his lifelong dedication to service and his commitment to improving the lives of others.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, those who knew him remember a man of integrity, compassion, and quiet strength. His influence extended far beyond boardrooms and institutions, touching countless lives through mentorship, kindness, and unwavering support.

In accordance with his wishes, funeral and burial arrangements will follow Islamic traditions and remain private. A public memorial is expected to be announced at a later date.
