16-Year-Old John Breer Dies After Car Crashes Into River in Effingham County, Illinois

John Breer Death, Obituary: The Effingham, Illinois community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 16-year-old John Breer, who tragically lost his life following a crash on Monday afternoon.

According to the Effingham County Coroner, the accident occurred around 4:29 p.m. on 875th Street, approximately one mile east of U.S. Route 45 in Effingham County, Illinois. Emergency responders, including Illinois State Police and Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies, arrived at the scene to find a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am overturned in a river.

The Effingham County Dive Team worked to recover the vehicle and remove the driver from the water. John Breer, identified as the sole occupant, was transported to HSHS St. Anthony’s Hospital in Effingham, where he was later pronounced dead at 6:05 p.m.

Preliminary findings indicate that Breer was traveling eastbound when, for reasons still under investigation, his vehicle left the roadway on the south side. The car then crossed into the westbound lane, struck a bridge railing, and overturned into the river.

An autopsy has been scheduled in Bloomington to determine the official cause of death as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

John’s sudden passing has left his family, friends, and the Effingham community in deep sorrow. As they grieve this unimaginable loss, he is remembered as a young life gone far too soon, leaving behind memories that will not be forgotten.
