Jarred Cavan Death, Obituary: MILPITAS, Calif. — The Milpitas community is grieving the tragic death of 17-year-old Jarred Cavan, who was fatally stabbed during a chaotic fight near Milpitas High School on Tuesday afternoon.
According to authorities, the altercation involved a group of about 10 teens on the 240 block of Vienna Drive at approximately 3:50 p.m. Jarred Cavan was found suffering apparent stab wounds and was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A 16-year-old girl was also treated for non-life-threatening injuries sustained in the fight.
The suspect, a 17-year-old boy, remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. He has been booked into Santa Clara County Juvenile Hall on charges of homicide and assault with a deadly weapon. Due to his age, authorities have not released his name.
Milpitas Unified School District Superintendent Cheryl Jordan expressed profound sorrow over the loss, stating, “This news is profoundly sad and we grieve with our community. Our hearts go out to Jarred’s family, friends, and all those affected by this senseless act.” The district has made counselors and safe spaces available for students and staff impacted by the tragedy.
Police confirmed that the fight appears to be isolated, but the investigation into the circumstances and sequence of events leading up to the stabbing is ongoing.
