In Loving Memory of James Alan Knapp

James Alan Knapp Accident, Obituary: Family, friends, and the community are mourning the heartbreaking loss of James Alan Knapp, whose life was tragically cut short following a fatal crash on the evening of March 12, 2026. James, a 56-year-old resident of Aberdeen, passed away from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate 29 near Sioux Falls.

According to preliminary information from the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 7:57 p.m. near mile marker 88, approximately four miles north of Sioux Falls in Minnehaha County. James was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo southbound when his vehicle had come to a complete stop in the driving lane. Moments later, it was struck from behind by a 2025 Peterbilt semi-truck operated by Rambo Saw of St. Paul.

The force of the collision sent the Monte Carlo into the west ditch. Sadly, James suffered fatal injuries in the crash. The driver of the semi was not injured. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation into the accident remains ongoing, and the information released so far is considered preliminary.

Beyond the tragic circumstances of his passing, James will be remembered most for the life he lived and the people he touched. Those who knew him describe him as someone with a strong spirit, a caring heart, and a quiet determination that shaped his relationships with family, friends, and members of his community.

In Aberdeen, James built connections that extended far beyond simple acquaintances. He valued loyalty, honesty, and the importance of showing up for the people who mattered most in his life. Whether through conversations, shared laughter, or everyday moments, he made a lasting impression on those around him.

His passing is a painful reminder of how quickly life can change. For the family and friends left behind, the loss is immeasurable. Yet within the sorrow is also a deep appreciation for the memories James created—memories of companionship, kindness, and moments that will never be forgotten.

As the community reflects on this tragedy, many hold onto the belief that a person’s legacy is defined not only by how they left this world, but by how they lived within it. James Alan Knapp lived a life that mattered to the people who knew and loved him.

Though he is gone, his memory will remain in the hearts of those who shared in his journey. May his loved ones find comfort in the stories, laughter, and moments they carry forward.

Rest in peace, James. You will not be forgotten.
