ONSLOW COUNTY – A local gathering in Jacksonville turned deadly on Friday afternoon, April 3, 2026, when a stabbing left one man dead and a suspect in custody.
At approximately 12:18 p.m., deputies with the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call reporting a stabbing at a residence on 623 Maynard Blvd. First responders transported the victim to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
The victim has been identified as Barry Keith Cooper, 47, of Jacksonville. Cooper suffered life-threatening injuries during the incident.
Authorities arrested Shakim Zion Bullock, 19, of Jacksonville, who faces charges including murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill. Bullock remains in custody without bond and is scheduled for his first court appearance on Monday, April 6, 2026.
The investigation is ongoing. The Onslow County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details but will provide updates as information becomes available.
