According to authorities from the Oregon State Police, the crash occurred around 5:44 p.m. on March 14, 2026, along U.S. Route 26 near milepost 31. The incident happened between the communities of Sandy and Zigzag, near the Brightwood and Marmot area.
Preliminary reports indicate that an eastbound Nissan Frontier crossed into the westbound lane and collided with a Honda Accord. Austin, a passenger seated in the back of the Honda and a resident of Corbett, tragically died at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Honda and another passenger were seriously injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver of the Nissan was also seriously hurt and taken to a hospital. Emergency crews remained on the scene for several hours as they worked to assist the injured and investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Traffic along U.S. Route 26 was significantly impacted for nearly five hours while first responders and investigators carried out their work. Authorities confirmed that the crash remains under investigation.
