According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 10 p.m. on State Route 741 near milepost 6 in Turtlecreek Township, Ohio. Troopers from the patrol’s Lebanon Post responded to reports of a serious crash involving two vehicles.

Investigators said a 2019 Tesla Model 3 driven by 17-year-old Dylan Sougstad of Cincinnati was traveling southbound on the highway at the time of the incident. A 2020 GMC Terrain driven by Chastity Smith, 53, of Trenton was heading north on the same road.

Preliminary findings from troopers indicate that the Tesla crossed the center line and collided with the oncoming GMC. The force of the impact sent both vehicles off the roadway. Investigators said the Tesla veered west of the highway, while the GMC left the road on the east side.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene shortly after the crash was reported. Despite their efforts, both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene due to the severe injuries they sustained.

Several agencies assisted with the response, including the Warren County Sheriff’s Office, the Turtlecreek Township Fire Department, emergency medical services teams, the Ohio Department of Transportation, the Warren County Coroner’s Office, and Jacob’s Towing.

Following the crash, authorities temporarily closed a stretch of State Route 741 between Hamilton Road and State Route 63 while investigators examined the scene and crews cleared the wreckage.

Officials say the crash remains under active investigation as troopers work to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal collision. Meanwhile, the tragic loss has left two Ohio communities mourning the lives cut short by the late-night crash.
