Dr. Frank Scambia Death, Obituary: In Loving Memory of Dr. Frank Scambia Deptford, New Jersey | March 9, 2026
With deep respect and heartfelt remembrance, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Frank Scambia, who passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2026, at the age of 80. A devoted educator, community leader, husband, father, and grandfather, Frank lived a life defined by kindness, service, and an unwavering commitment to improving the lives of others.
Frank’s life was rooted in a powerful belief: that education has the ability to change lives. This belief guided him throughout his remarkable career and inspired the countless students, educators, and community members who had the privilege of working alongside him. In 1984, Frank earned his Doctorate, further strengthening his dedication to learning and leadership in education.
His career began in the Philadelphia Public School District, where he served as both a teacher and administrator from 1967 to 1996. During those years, Frank became known as an educator who cared deeply about his students, always striving to support them academically and personally. Teaching, for Frank, was never simply a profession—it was a calling. He believed in every student’s potential and worked tirelessly to create opportunities for them to succeed.
Frank later brought his passion and leadership to the Paulsboro School District, where he served as principal from 1996 to 2001. His dedication and vision soon led him to the role of Superintendent, a position he held from 2001 until his retirement in 2013. Throughout his time in Paulsboro, Frank earned the respect and admiration of students, parents, teachers, and fellow administrators. His leadership helped shape the district and left a lasting impact on the educational community.
Even beyond his professional responsibilities, Frank’s dedication to education never wavered. If he was not in the school building during the day, he was often found attending school events in the evening—cheering on students, supporting programs, and celebrating achievements. His presence reflected his genuine love for the school community and the people within it.
Frank’s commitment to service extended well beyond the classroom. He proudly served four terms on the Deptford Board of Education, giving back to the community that meant so much to him. He was also an active member of the United States Junior Chamber (Deptford Jaycees), dedicating many years of service to civic engagement. For 15 years, he served as Director of Deptford Day, helping organize and support an event that brought the community together in celebration and unity.
Another meaningful part of Frank’s service was his role as Executive Director of “Contact,” a suicide prevention organization devoted to supporting individuals during times of crisis. Through this work, Frank demonstrated his compassion and commitment to helping those in need, offering hope and support to people during some of their most difficult moments.
Faith was also an important part of Frank’s life. He was a devoted and active member of Jersey Life Wesleyan Church, where he found both spiritual strength and community.
While Frank achieved so much professionally and through his service, nothing in his life meant more to him than his family. He was the loving husband of Patricia “Pat” Scambia, and together they shared 58 beautiful years of marriage. Their life together was filled with love, laughter, and countless memories. They enjoyed traveling and spending cherished time with their children and grandchildren, who were the true center of Frank’s world.
Frank was a proud and devoted father to Marc Scambia and Cyndi (Brian) Stocklin, and a loving Pop to his grandchildren Marc, Eric, Brianna, Michael, Madison, and Chase. His family also includes his beloved nieces Donna (Harry), Debbie, Linda (John), Donna (Kevin), and Deanna (Dan), along with 12 great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.
Frank often shared a quote that perfectly reflected the gratitude he carried in his heart:
“Look around you. I’ve got a great wife, wonderful kids, and super grandkids. What else matters? God has blessed me.”
These words capture the spirit of a man who valued love, family, and faith above all else.
Dr. Frank Scambia’s legacy is one of kindness, service, leadership, and love. His influence can be seen in the many students he inspired, the schools he strengthened, the community he served, and the family he cherished so deeply. Though he will be greatly missed, the countless lives he touched will continue to carry forward his example.
