Garrett Nicholas Obituary Orefield, Pennsylvania: In Loving Memory Of West Chester University Student Killed In Vehicle Strike On South High Street
West Chester, Pa. — A student at West Chester University has died after being struck by a vehicle in an early morning crash over the weekend, authorities confirmed.
Garrett Nicholas, a junior from Orefield, Pennsylvania, was identified by friends as the victim of the incident.
Police said officers were dispatched to the 300 block of South High Street at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 12, following reports of a crash involving a pedestrian. According to officials, Nicholas was struck by a vehicle traveling along South High Street.
Emergency responders transported him to Paoli Hospital, where he died several hours later from injuries sustained in the crash.
In a message to the campus community, the university’s Vice President for Student Affairs said the incident occurred Saturday evening, and the student passed away the following day.
“Last evening, one of our students was struck by a vehicle and was transported to the hospital, where they passed away later today,” the statement read.
Authorities confirmed that the vehicle involved, along with the driver and any occupants, has been identified. The incident remains under investigation by the West Chester Police Department’s crash reconstruction unit.
“Please know that this is an active investigation with the local authorities, and we do not have any conclusive details at this time,” the university’s statement added.
University officials expressed condolences, describing the loss as a tragedy for the campus community.
“We are deeply saddened about this tragedy and know that this news will be hard for a number of those in our Golden Ram family,” the statement said. “We grieve over the loss of our student with their family, friends, and everyone who knew them.”
