Gary Kelley Death, Obituary: Gary was more than just an artist—he was part of the very soul of the festival. From the very beginning, his talent and vision helped shape the identity of Iowa Irish Fest, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be woven into its story. Year after year, through the generous support of our founder Jim Walsh and his family, we were honored to commission original pieces from Gary—each one capturing the spirit, culture, and heart of the celebration. Today, we are proud to still hold these works, many of which hang in Jim’s office as a lasting tribute to Gary’s extraordinary gift.
As we approach the 20th Iowa Irish Fest, this will be the first year without a new original piece from Gary. His absence will be deeply felt, but his presence will remain in every corner of the festival—in the art, in the memories, and in the hearts of all who knew him.
This year, we will celebrate Gary’s life and legacy in meaningful ways. Prints of his artwork will be available in the merchandise area, allowing everyone to take home a piece of his enduring creativity. Looking ahead, we hope to one day share our full collection of his original works with the public as we continue working toward an Iowa Irish Fest headquarters—a place where his art can inspire future generations alongside Irish workshops and educational programs.
We invite you to join us in honoring Gary Kelley. Please visit and share the Iowa Irish Fest page featuring his tribute, and take a moment to explore Gary Kelley Art to experience the beauty and spirit he brought into the world.
Though he is no longer with us, Gary’s art lives on—and so does the joy, culture, and connection he helped create.
He will be deeply missed, and always remembered.
