A quiet stretch of Three Notch Road became the scene of a fatal incident in the early hours of Friday, April 10, 2026, when a 40-year-old man lost his life after being struck while attempting to cross the roadway.
The crash occurred at approximately 2:26 a.m. in the 22700 block of southbound Three Notch Road near Town Creek Drive. Authorities received multiple 911 calls reporting a pedestrian lying in the roadway. One of the involved vehicles, a 2016 BMW 528i driven by a 21-year-old man from Waldorf, remained at the scene, and the driver has been reported as cooperative.
Authorities also confirmed that a second vehicle involved in the collision fled the scene. The vehicle is believed to be a dark blue or black Dodge Caravan, model years between 2011 and 2020, and is likely to have sustained front-end damage. Investigators clarified that another vehicle initially thought to be involved was, in fact, a witness who stopped to assist and contact emergency services.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Collision Reconstruction Team is leading the ongoing investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Southbound lanes of Three Notch Road were closed for several hours as officials processed the scene and cleared the roadway. The case remains active.
