Douglas Spoonhour Jr Death: Douglas Spoonhour Jr., 35, of Mercersburg Dies in Tragic Franklin County Crash on Saint Thomas Williamson Road

The community of Mercersburg is mourning the tragic loss of Douglas Spoonhour Jr., 35, who died in a devastating vehicle crash early Monday morning, March 9, 2026, in Saint Thomas Township.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Chambersburg, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 6:16 a.m. along the 1600 block of Saint Thomas Williamson Road in Franklin County.

Investigators reported that Spoonhour was driving a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire when the vehicle traveled across the roadway and struck an embankment. The impact caused the car to roll over before crashing into a utility pole. Authorities said the pole collapsed during the collision, crushing the vehicle and fatally injuring Spoonhour.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, but Spoonhour was sadly pronounced dead by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office.

Officials confirmed that the Pontiac Sunfire was later removed from the scene, and the crash remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police.
