Nora Saldana and Teen Passenger Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-10 Frontage Road in Marana
MARANA, Arizona — In the early hours of March 25, 2026, at approximately 1:22 a.m., Marana Police Department officers and personnel from the Northwest Fire District responded to a devastating two-vehicle collision along the Interstate 10 Frontage Road, between West Tangerine Road and West Avra Valley Road, on the west side of Interstate 10. The crash claimed the lives of 48-year-old Nora Saldana and a 17-year-old juvenile female.
Upon arrival, officers located five individuals involved in the crash. Two of the individuals were unresponsive. Lifesaving efforts were immediately initiated; however, tragically, Saldana and the juvenile female were pronounced deceased at the scene. Next of kin has been notified, and the community mourns the loss of these lives.
The Marana Police Department Traffic Unit responded to continue the investigation. Investigators conducted interviews with all involved parties and collected evidence from the roadway to reconstruct the events leading to the collision. The vehicles involved were identified as a 2003 Jeep Liberty and a 2021 Honda Civic. The Jeep Liberty was occupied by a single individual, while the Honda Civic carried four occupants.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the Jeep Liberty was traveling northwest along the Interstate 10 Frontage Road in the correct lane, while the Honda Civic was traveling southeast in the wrong lane—directly into the path of the Jeep Liberty. The two vehicles collided head-on, resulting in severe damage to both vehicles. Investigators have reported that no signs of impairment were observed from either driver.
This stretch of the roadway is a two-lane frontage road, with one lane designated for northwest travel and one lane designated for southeast travel. The nature of the collision underscores the inherent dangers of wrong-way driving, even when no impairment or speeding is involved.
The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing. At this time, no citations or arrests have been made. Marana Police Department officials are urging all motorists to exercise caution, remain vigilant while driving, and adhere to lane designations to prevent similar tragedies.
The Marana Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims. Community members are encouraged to keep the families in their thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.
