In Loving Memory of David Oliver (1962 – 1992)

David Oliver (1962 – 1992) Death, Obituary: It is with profound sadness that we remember David Oliver, a talented actor, devoted partner, and passionate advocate, whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 30. Born in Ogden, Utah, David grew up on a farm before moving to San Diego in his teens. His journey from a small-town upbringing to the bright lights of Los Angeles is a testament to his determination, talent, and unwavering spirit.

David pursued his love of the arts by majoring in drama at the University of Southern California, where he honed the skills that would define his professional career. Beginning in 1982, he quickly established himself in the world of television. From 1983 to 1985, David brought to life the character of Perry Hutchins on the daytime soap Another World, captivating audiences with his presence and charisma. In 1986, he played Sam Gardner in the NBC miniseries A Year in the Life, a role he continued in the series’ regular season in 1987. His on-screen wife, played by Sarah Jessica Parker, was a part of a story that highlighted his talent for nuanced, heartfelt performances.

Beyond his on-screen work, David was a founding member of Young Artists United, a group of young actors—including Sarah Jessica Parker and Laura Dern—who used their voices for political and social activism. He brought the same dedication to his craft and community as he did to his advocacy, demonstrating a commitment to making a difference both on and off the stage.

Shortly before his untimely death, David appeared in Elegies: An AIDS Anthology, a poignant theatrical work honoring those lost to AIDS, and had a guest role in Star Trek: The Next Generation episode “Cost of Living.” These final performances reflect his courage and passion for storytelling even in the face of personal illness.

David was survived by his beloved partner, Terry Houlihan, who remained a source of love and strength until his own passing in 2022. Together, they shared a life filled with devotion, compassion, and the pursuit of truth and justice in both art and life.

Though David Oliver’s life was brief, his impact endures—in the roles he embodied, the activism he championed, and the lives he touched. We honor his memory, celebrate his talent, and carry forward the spirit of kindness, creativity, and courage that defined him.

Rest in peace, David Oliver. Your legacy shines brightly, and your spirit will never be forgotten.
