In Loving Memory of Joseph A. Kidwell
With profound sadness, we remember Joseph A. Kidwell, a 45-year-old man from Marion, Indiana, whose life was tragically cut short in a fatal crash on Interstate 69 early Tuesday morning. His passing has left family, friends, and the community reeling from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of a life taken far too soon.
According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called around 6:33 a.m. to the northbound lanes of I-69 near the 272-mile marker following multiple 911 reports of a vehicle that had flipped and several people who had been ejected. Emergency responders arrived on the scene to find a devastating accident involving two vehicles: a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1996 Chevrolet truck.
Investigators report that the 1996 truck had broken down on the side of the roadway, and the occupants were waiting for family members to arrive and assist them. While the vehicle was stopped, a semi-tractor trailer was reportedly switching lanes, causing the Silverado to veer off the road and strike the disabled truck.
First responders immediately attempted life-saving measures, but tragically, Joseph A. Kidwell succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Other injured individuals were transported to a hospital in Fort Wayne for treatment.
Several agencies worked together at the scene to respond to the crash, including the Indiana State Police, multiple local fire departments, EMS units, and the Grant County Emergency Management Agency. The coordinated efforts of these responders ensured that victims received immediate attention and the scene was managed as safely as possible under challenging circumstances.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact the Grant County Sheriff’s Office at (765) 662-9836.
Sheriff Del Garcia extended heartfelt prayers and condolences to the families affected by this tragic event, emphasizing the deep impact of this loss on the community.
For those who knew Joseph, his passing is not only a tragic accident but also the loss of a valued friend, family member, and neighbor.
