Kyran Smith Obituary, Death: HOMEWOOD, IL — The Homewood community is grieving the sudden and tragic loss of Kyran Smith, 14, who passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, following a hit-and-run crash at the intersection of 183rd Street and Governors Highway.

According to Homewood police, the incident occurred around 8:17 p.m. A grey Chevy Equinox traveling south on Governors Highway veered off the roadway and struck two stopped vehicles: a black Buick Park Avenue and a black Nissan Rogue. Kyran was a passenger in the Nissan at the time of the collision. The driver of the Chevy fled the scene on foot but was later taken into custody by authorities.

The 27-year-old driver of the Nissan and other passengers sustained injuries but are expected to recover, while the driver and passenger of the Buick Park Avenue, ages 31 and 33, were treated for minor injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the crash, and no additional information has been released regarding potential charges against the Chevy driver.

Kyran Smith is remembered as a bright, kind, and joyful young boy whose presence brought light and laughter to everyone around him.
