Maliyah Powell Death, Obituary: The Lewiston, Maine community is mourning the tragic and untimely loss of Maliyah Powell, 22, who passed away following a fatal shooting early Friday morning, March 20, 2026, in Lewiston, Maine.
According to authorities, at approximately 1:26 a.m., the Lewiston-Auburn Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a shooting on Union Street. Lewiston Police responded to the scene and requested assistance from the Maine State Police. Upon arrival, officers found Maliyah suffering from a gunshot wound.
She was transported to Central Maine Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta conducted an autopsy, determining the cause of death to be a gunshot wound and ruling the manner of death as homicide.
Following an investigation by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit South, along with Evidence Response Technicians, authorities arrested 25-year-old Elise Bergeron of Lewiston in connection with the incident. Bergeron has been charged with murder and was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail.
Maliyah Powell’s passing has left a deep void in the hearts of her family, friends, and the Lewiston community. She will be remembered for her life, her presence, and the memories she created with those who knew and loved her.
