In Loving Memory of Sharon Bukulmez, Kinsley Grubb, and Sawyer Grubb

With profound sadness, we remember 61-year-old Sharon Bukulmez of Mount Desert and her two beloved grandchildren, 5-year-old Kinsley Grubb and 3-year-old Sawyer Grubb of Bar Harbor, whose lives were tragically cut short in a heartbreaking incident in Roque Bluffs, Maine.

The three were traveling after attending a family event in Jonesboro on Saturday evening. They were expected to arrive in Machias, but when they did not reach their destination, concern quickly grew among their loved ones. Sharon and the children were last seen at approximately 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

When the family realized they had not arrived as expected, police were contacted and an effort to locate them began. Information obtained from Sharon’s mobile phone by the Bar Harbor Police Department eventually indicated that she was in the water near the boat ramp at the end of Schoppee Point Road in Roque Bluffs.

Maine State Police troopers responded to the area, joined by members of the Maine State Police Dive Team and Maine Marine Patrol. After hours of searching, at approximately 7:00 Sunday morning, authorities located the vehicle submerged in Pond Cove.

Tragically, Sharon and both children were found deceased inside the vehicle.

The discovery brought an unimaginable end to a desperate overnight search and left a family and community facing a devastating loss.

Sharon was a grandmother whose life was intertwined with the lives of her grandchildren. Kinsley and Sawyer were only five and three years old — children with so much life ahead of them, so many memories yet to make, and so many milestones they should have had the opportunity to experience.

Their deaths are a heartbreaking reminder of how precious and fragile life can be.

Our thoughts are with their family, friends, and everyone who knew and loved Sharon, Kinsley, and Sawyer. We also remember the first responders, divers, marine personnel, law enforcement officers, Coast Guard members, and others who worked through the night and into the morning searching for the missing family members.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Coast Guard also assisted at the scene, reflecting the tremendous effort made to locate the vehicle and bring the family home.

There are no words that can truly ease a loss of this magnitude. For those who loved Sharon, Kinsley, and Sawyer, the days ahead will undoubtedly be filled with grief, memories, and questions.

May the memories of Sharon’s life and the precious childhood memories of Kinsley and Sawyer remain forever cherished.

May their family find strength in one another, comfort in the love they shared, and peace in the memories that will never be taken away.
